From my iPhone

July 23rd, 2008 Posted in Off the farm | 1 Comment »

This is just for my own giggles, but I thought I would give you all another reason to be in awe of me. This blog post was generated and posted directly from my phone. I would suggest you all start trembling in fear now, as I can blog FROM ANY PLACE ON EARTH!!! Within reason. It’s not like my phone would get very good reception in Antartica. But then again, when am I going to Antartica?
I do think a beach posting is short order though.

I was right. Well, kind of. I had to use a non-apple phone for almost a month. Don’t worry, no permanent damage was done. But now I am fully geeked out, and so is Julie.

Got the new phones Saturday, and we’re liking them.

But enough about gadgets. It’s been a  pretty tame summer so far. We spent the 4th at Julie’s parents house. “Best fireworks ever”, according to Mike.

Finally we are seeing the blue skies again. To those of you out of state, the fear of California falling into the sea is slowly being replaced be the concern that we may just burn up and blow away. It seemed like 2 or 3 weeks of constant fog/smog/I don’t know what. But I do know I missed seeing the blue sky. I know Julie is happier. On the bad days the kids had to stay indoors. Two two year olds stuck inside all day? The silver lining? We did have some beautiful sunsets.

Let’s see, what else….

I am reading A Voyage Long and Strange. If you like travel books you should check out Tony Horwitz. His books are entertaining, and he does a great job at filling in those gaps that grade school missed. You know like the pilgrims weren’t the first Americans. Good stuff though.

OH! I am a farmer! I am growing my own food for the first time ever. Organic too, I might add. Two types of strawberries. Liam can’t wait to get his mouth on those. Summer squash, bell peppers, Italian basil, and rosemary. Everything is still growing, but Julie has already made a great Insalata Caprese with the basil. Kinda cool. If you want to call me farmer Mark, that would be ok.

All in all, things are great.

Do you think I’m a geek?

That was a rhetorical question.

Of course I am! And I can prove it. Yesterday I sold my old, worn out technically insufficient iPhone on eBay. Old you say? Yes. It was almost a year old, and well, the new ones are maybe coming out on Monday.

AND I WANT ONE!!!

Strange thing is, other people are not as geekish as me. Apple ran out of the old, let’s call them gen 1 iPhones some time ago. The assumption here is that a new version is coming at Apples developer convention that starts on Monday. The lack of supply has generated a secondary market. This secondary market either does not know of the impending gen 2 iPhone, or does not care. I have taken advantage of this markets impatience. I sold my iPhone for almost retail value, and when the new one arrives, I shall be ALL POWERFUL!!! You shall all be my subjects. If you would like, you can start refering to me as “your lordship”.

Or I could be wrong.

Wanna see what I have been up to?

It has been Indiana Jones crazy for me of late. I have been part of 3 cool joints revolving around the launch of this most anticipated movie event. I for one can’t wait to see it.

So here is the stuff:

I finished a spot for Dr Pepper in which we worked along side ILM on some crazy FX. I may get paid for what I do, but those chaps are true pros. Total magic. Here is the spot: drpepper

After that, I was lucky enough to work on a cool spot for what looks like a cool game. Check it out:  shimmy

And lastly I was fortunate to be able to help out with this fun video: Lego Boulder

Hope you enjoy looking as much as I had fun working on this stuff.
That’s all for now.

A big shout out to all the moms and grand moms out there!

Thanks for being you. And thanks for making us who we are!

A special shout out to the mommy that helps make my life so great.
Happy mother’s day Julie! You have the hardest job in the world, but you smile and ask for more. You are truly inspiring.

I changed hosts, and the website went buh-bye. Oh well, spring cleaning.

Kids are good, wife is good, and work is good. I guess that means life is good.

Our back yard currently looks like a miniature WWI diorama. We are having a lawn put in so the kids can destroy it. I will post some pics later tonight, but the irrigation and drainage needed to be re-done. So all the ground cover has been torn out, and surface is cris-crossed with little trenches.

It should be all green and pretty soon. We are thinking of having a “usable back yard celebration” soon, so keep you eyes open for that evite.

Talk at you all later.
